Carl Rich: Eight grade movie night, hoping for a Western or a Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis comedy. The Marquez on the Roxy theater send Hamlet and the poster showed men with swords. A swashbuckler about a village? In I went. At the end everyone was DEAD! HUH!? I watched it again. What was this…? Something! At home, excited I told my mother all about it. “Oh, that’s Shakespeare.” “Who?” “You’ll find out in high school.” It sounded like a punishment. But after, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis seem silly and Westerns were just empty action. Today it is still that “SOMETHING!” ???
